The thing that is going to cause additional tire wear is camber. No matter how low you go (for the most part) camber is correctable with adjustable suspension arms. The lower you go, keeping your camber within OE specs, will be all about your tire and wheel size combination. To keep close to OE camber specs and get the wider wheel and tire combo most ppl roll and pull their fenders. Wheel fitment, tire size etc. is all personal preference.
